We are committed to making sure St Peter’s is a safe place for everyone. We use the Church of England’s safer recruitment processes for all appointments to both volunteer and paid roles.
Before you make an application, please read through the process below so you know what to expect from the process. Then look at the adverts and role descriptions below, find a post you like and apply!
To make sure we’re a safe place for everyone, we use the safer recruitment process outlined here for all appointments to roles at St Peter’s. This is the summary version. If you’re interested in more detail, you can visit the Church of England’s safer recruitment website.
The role you are interested in may include a requirement for a DBS check, if that’s the case it will say so clearly on the role description. Click here if you would like to read our Recruitment of Ex-Offenders Policy.
Every role has a description of the role and a document that specifies the kind of person we are looking for to fill the role.
It’s really important to read both documents before you apply. Then you will have a better understanding of the role and whether you have the skills and experience to be successful!
We ask you to complete an application form online. We do not accept CVs for volunteer or employed roles. This ensures that everyone’s information comes to us in the same format which is fairer. If you need help to complete the form online, please let us know.
It’s important that you complete the form as fully as you can. Please pay particular attention to the question 4. We will use this to see if you meet the person specification and whether you understand the role.
The next step after the application form is an interview. We will always interview for every role. We will use the Church of England’s rules on proportionality, so it may be with one person or two people. When we invite you to interview we will also send you a copy of the questions we will ask so that you can be well prepared.
If your interview goes well, we will then complete the pre-appointment checks.
If there are any anomalies in your confidential declaration or DBS we will need to seek advice from the Diocesan Safeguarding Team before you can take up your appointment.
If your application is successful, we will give you an induction and there will be a settling in period. After the settling in period we will meet with you to confirm your appointment, to extend your settling in period or to end the appointment.
During this time you will need to complete all the safeguarding training requirements in the role description if you haven’t already done so.
